What are datacenter proxies?

Datacenter proxies are IPv4 addresses created in commercial data centres — the same facilities that host websites and cloud apps. They're not tied to an internet service provider or a home connection. Because they're generated at scale, they are cheap, fast and abundant. You can buy hundreds in seconds, and you can get dedicated ones for your exclusive use.

The catch: sophisticated websites maintain lists of known datacenter IP ranges. On strict targets — major retailers, sneaker sites, social networks — a datacenter IP can be flagged the moment it connects, before you've done anything. They're brilliant for SEO tools, public APIs and general scraping of tolerant sites, but a poor fit for the toughest destinations.

What are residential proxies?

Residential proxies route through IPv4 addresses that ISPs assigned to real homes. To a website, the traffic is indistinguishable from an ordinary person browsing from their living room. That authenticity is exactly why residential IPs pass strict anti-bot checks that block datacenter ranges.

The trade-offs: residential proxies are more expensive (billed by bandwidth, per GB), and because rotating pools cycle addresses, an individual IP may not stick around. For most users that's a fair price for getting through where datacenter IPs can't.
